  • Heavy Saucepan



  • Brown ground beef in a heavy saucepan, drain.
  • Add onion and garlic and cook until tender.
  • Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  1. I make this chili all the time, but I add more chili powder. 1 – 2 tablespoons to taste. And also thicken it with flour and water at the end.

  2. This was the chili Mom made when I was growing up. We have adapted it a bit and add brown sugar to it to make it a ‘sweet chili’. I serve it every year at my Super Bowl Party, and love to eat it with Frito Scoops! It gets rave reviews every year. My pro tip, if you have the time, is to make it at least a day before. When I go to re-heat and serve, it takes on a new color and flavor as all the spices do their magic.

    I love your recipe but would like to complain that is no longer on the can. It was always so easy to read the can at the store and pick up the ingredients.

  6. I agree, the recipe on the can allows for a spur of the moment decision in the store. So many times I’ve wanted to make it but I couldn’t remember what all the measurements were.

  7. Please put the recipe back on the can label. I frequently buy the ingredients on impulse while at the store, and it was so handy to be able to look at the back of the can.

    This is the only chili recipe that my entire family agrees on, with no complaints. 😀 I follow it exactly, except I add diced green peppers.
